The Kiel Files
As explained by Ralph Gregory in 2009
The “Kiel Files” are a collection of written and printed records of Franklin County, Missouri. The collection was made by Herman Gottlieb Kiel, a man born and raised to maturity in the county. Click here to read more about the files.
Herman Kiel published part of the collection in 1925. What he published was mainly lists of persons who had worked at various occupations in the county since the county began. There were many lists such as: judges, clerks, postmasters, teachers, soldiers, justices of the peace, etc. All the lists were compiled from the information he found in county papers , the newspaper articles, information he received from writing to descendents of earlier residents of the county, and from studying county historical documents.”
