Alexander Fischer and the Calvin Theater. Alexander Fischer of Washington, Mo., is best known locally for his role in the construction of the Calvin Theater in his hometown; however, his frequent use of the broken frieze and innovation of streetscape designs made him a leading home builder in the St. Louis area in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Fischer left an enduring mark on the city through the completion of hundreds of homes and dozens of streetscapes. Katie Dieckhaus will tell his story, one of great success, tremendous loss, and lasting legacy.
